This shit kills me. Why was the bisexuality in DA2 a controversy? Really? This is some straight bullshit if I’ve ever heard it. People need to sit the fuck down with that. Every non-indie video game that has provided romance options has provided an option for opposite sex love interests. Every single one. HOW ABOUT LETTING THE GAYS HAVE THIS ONE.
And then you’ve got these straight fanboys complaining that it’s unrealistic. That many people can’t be bi and all know each other and hang out with Hawke! The same word came up with Skyrim’s marriage mechanic: unrealistic. It’s unrealistic that marriage equality could exist in this medieval setting!
AND BOTH OF THESE GAMES HAVE FUCKING DRAGONS IN THEM! AND MAGIC! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT UNREALISTIC.
But okay, I think the one that bothers me the most is the accusation that it’s lazy. Really? Providing alternate dialogue depending on your character’s sex was lazy? Reaching out to gaymers was lazy? It was lazy of Bioware to provide something for a minority of their fans; the untapped market of gaymers?
Fuck that. It was amazing. How many bad ass gay characters are there in video games? How many role models do we really have? How many characters that we can identify with? How often can we truly role play, and have our custom characters kiss boys just like us, without having to default to a female PC? That was fucking awesome of Bioware, and I really hope they continue this “controversial trend.”
No beef with the asker or dragonaging. Just wanted to address this topic.
